Walk For Rice

Many of us are well off enough to survive, but as humans, we tend to take things for granted. We have enough to eat 3 meals a day, we have a nice house to stay in and enough money to buy things we like, yet we still complain that we do not have enough and we want more. Being in a developed urbanised country, we hardly see poverty around us, however, that does not mean it doesn't exist in our country! I'm sure most of us do not know that in fact one quarter of Singapore households are below the poverty line! Ö

Sometimes it's good to take a step back from our hectic and busy days to help out those in need, even if it's a little something, at least you made an effort to help. I'm sure our little help will definitely make the day of those that have benefited from it!

The NTUC FairPrice Walk for Rice is a charity campaign, organised by NTUC FairPrice and South East CDC to raise half a million bowls of rice to benefit 7,000 needy families. So while waiting for our next lesson to start, we decided to take part in the walk to help this cause! Not only did we help the needy in the process but we also help ourselves to burn off the excess calories we just had! Killing two birds in one stone :D

Here are some pictures:

For every 100 metres, 1 bowl of rice is donated

While leaving..

Every stick collected is 1 bowl of rice

All of us walked 3 rounds each, that makes it 15 bowls of rice! Which is enough to feed a family of 3 for about 5 days, and it only took about 15-20 minutes of our time. All it takes is just a little time and effort, what is 15 minutes as compared to helping a needy family without enough to eat. All of us should to our part to help those in need, that is what makes us human.

I'm sure me and my group mates have a great time walking together to help the needy! Nothing beats the sense of satisfaction after helping the people that are in need! :-)
